Math Teacher Conquers Sleep Apnea and Becomes Marathon Runner
The connection between obesity and sleep apnea
Sleep apnea has always been linked to obesity as people who are obese usually also have some symptoms of sleep apnea. Research has shown that obesity causes adiposity in the upper airway, which is what causes sleep apnea in the first place. That said, those who are obese have a strong chance of getting sleep apnea since fat easily blocks their airway. When this happens, the patient will then have difficulty breathing in their sleep and will have episodes where their breathing suddenly just stops in the middle of the night.
