Medical Cannabis Is a No-No for Sleep Apnea, Experts Say

There are also other breathing machines on the market

  • Expiratory positive airway pressure or EPAP is a single-use device that fits over your nose to keep your airways open. They are smaller and much less intrusive. They often benefit those with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea.
  • Bilevel positive airway pressure or BiPAP machines are used for those who cannot adapt to a CPAP or for central sleep apneapatients. This treatment automatically adjusts the pressure while you are sleeping. It provides more pressure when you inhale and less when you exhale.
  • Adaptive servo-ventilation ASV devices are used for handling central sleep apnea and obstructive sleep apnea. The ASV machine stores data about your breathing patterns and mechanically uses airflow pressure to stop pauses in your breathing while you sleep.
