New Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Lupus
Clinical criteria: based on symptoms
- Acute symptoms of skin- like malar rash, or psoriasis-like rash, or skin rash due to sensitivity to light.
- Chronic rashes of the skin
- Ulcers of mouth or nasal cavity (especially when other causes cannot be identified)
- Loss of hair, without scarring of the skin, or it may be just diffused thinning of hair.
- Inflammation of joint capsule, resulting in pain in joints. Usually, it would affect more than two joints, characterized by stiffness that would last more than half an hour.
- Inflammation of the elastic membrane that covers the lungs and heart. It would result in either pain in breathing or pain in the chest cavity.
