Prototype Detects Rheumatoid Arthritis
Other uses in addition to RA
In addition to diagnosing arthritis, the device was developed to help doctors determine the severity of burns, the presence of skin cancer, and the hardening of arteries. Each of these fields requires some degree of physical examination, but in developing a device that takes human observation out of the equation, researchers hoped to provide objective tests and give doctors more to work with than simply their own powers of observation. Such technology would take some pressure off of doctors to make a diagnosis based on physical examinations alone, and increase the reliability and accessibility of diagnoses.
