The SPORE Program Receives Grant for Lymphoma Research

3. Targeting Tumor Metabolism in Lymphoma

This project is more focused on developing new treatments for lymphoma. The researchers want to interfere with signal pathways that drive the use of glucose. Lymphomas sometimes lose a regulator of growth called TNFR-associated factor 3 (TRAF3). The lymphoma also activates a regulator of many pathways (including glucose) named glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3). This all means that the lymphoma doesn't regulate its growth and grows larger and larger while also interfering with other regulators in the body. Researchers are planning to test a new GSK3 inhibitor to see if that reduces tumor growth and increase the survival rates for patients.
