Team Makes Dream Come True for Teammate with Muscular Dystrophy

His coach wanted to assign Harris as a pitch runner

The celebration, however, didn’t go completely as planned. The team’s coach, Nick Brayford, wanted to surprise Harris on this day by assigning him as pinch runner near the end of the game so that the 18-year-old could feel the thrill of running past home plate. The coach made arrangements with both teams to let Harris run for his team.

The plan was for the Pottsville pitcher to overthrow first base on a pick-off attempt, giving Harris the opportunity to pinch run out of third base and cross home plate for the first time in his life. "We were going to enter Brandon as a pinch runner in a game. It was all set up. He would walk the first guy and Brandon would take first base," Brayford said. "It was kind of an overthrow that would bring him around to score."
