Tips for Properly Bathing, Dressing and Grooming Alzheimer's Patients
Things to do while giving a bath or shower
- Patients with Alzheimer’s should be allowed to take part in the process as much as possible. By doing this, they can feel more dignified and more in control.
- Placing a towel on the patient’s lap or shoulders gives the patient privacy. A washcloth or sponge can be used to clean the parts that are underneath the towel.
- If the patient becomes upset, the caregiver can try to distract them by talking to them.
- A washcloth should be given to the patient to hold. This is done in order for the caregiver to not be hit by the patient, just in case.
