High blood glucose level is known to cause not only peripheral neuropathies but also alter the brain functioning leading to changes in mental abilities and mood. It has been shown that high blood glucose may change the working of the limbic system and other brain centers involved in mood and emotions. Hence, depression in many cases could be a direct result of diabetes.
