The 2000s brought a significant jump for treatment with Alzheimer's disease
The middle 2000s brought a significant step forward in Alzheimer’s research. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration or FDA approved several medications to handle the symptoms of Alzheimer’s, including Donepezi and Memantine. Donepezi is a drug used to treat mild to moderate Alzheimer’s, and Memantine is used to treat moderate to severe Alzheimer’s. These medications work by modifying neurotransmitters and may aid in the reduction of Alzheimer’s symptoms and some behavioral issues. These drugs, however, won’t cure the underlying disease process, and they may not help everyone.
