Electronic Nose Created to Sniff Out Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Promising success rates so far
The Moosy is not in full production and is still a prototype. It has so far tested 445 samples and has achieved a correct diagnosis 90% of the time, certainly better than any human nose. Perhaps not as good as a dog nose, but training a dog to tell the difference between Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis may be a more difficult task.
That amount of accuracy amounts to a better rate of success than other non-invasive tests, but there is still a long way to go before Moosy 32 eNose can completely supplant biopsies.
“Results of the investigation are positive; however, it is paramount to continue working to improve the detection algorithms,” says professor José Pelegrí.
