Father Who Gave Cannabis to Sick Children Avoids Jail
64 year old Stephen Taylor has made headlines as the father who grew and juiced cannabis to ease the suffering of his two daughters, both of whom have Crohn’s disease.
Throughout the years, the Australian man struggled to find a doctor who would help him through the process of legalizing access to medical cannabis. He could not understand why the government was making the process so difficult. “I think it’s just wrong the way the government has set this up, that we cannot access this amazing plant. So many parents are screaming out for it. Unfortunately, there are so many parents getting arrested for it” said Mr. Taylor
Mr. Taylor’s daughters, Ariel (25) and Morgan (21), both suffer from Crohn’s disease – an inflammatory bowel disease that has caused them to become frequently hospitalized. “I kind of say that I’m not living anymore, I’m just surviving and that’s what’s really hard” said Morgan. Sadly, the side effects of traditional drugs are severe.
“I got really bad arthritis… my knees were swollen and I couldn’t walk some days” she said. “I had a severe reaction to another drug called Infliximab, my throat started closing up, I was having anaphylaxis reaction, my face was swelling up, I was getting a rash. That was very serious” she added. Her sister, Ariel, nearly died from hemorrhaging. “I was so sick I wasn’t able to eat… I was in constant pain. It was pretty intense” she recalled.
