Why Skin-Restricted Lupus Patients Often Have Psychiatric Disorders

As many know, lupus can take various forms as an autoimmune virus. One form in particular is known skin-restricted lupus erythematosus  (SRL).  SRL is an aggressive skin disorder that damages not only the epidermis, but also the lifestyles of lupus patients. This form of lupus is commonly associated with lesions on the skin as well as butterfly rashes on the face, neck, chest and legs.

These symptoms are incredibly visible, which makes some patients feel embarrassed. In several cases, SRL patients have been known to develop psychiatric disorders because of the mental pain generated from their condition. In fact, several patients with SRL suffer from mental disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, current suicide risk, alcohol dependency and lifetime agoraphobia

Doctors and loved ones should pay close attention to SRL patients since they are unpredictable. However efficient psychiatric evaluations can help in treatment. Not much awareness is there about SRL since this form of lupus is so obscure and hence as a result patients are disvalued. Not much data is available to show the vulnerability of SRL patients to develop mental problems.

Recently in the prevalent nature of SRL remission there has been an increase. Even though such people have defeated their physical scars but in those that survived the physical symptoms, a noticeable difference has been observed. The likelihood of patients to develop critical mental disorder is reduced with proper treatment and awareness.  For data concerning the well being of SRL there is a high demand. It states that psychiatric treatment should be given to those with SRL.

In order to come to a conclusion whether those in remission are prone to mental issues, several different varieties of tests have been conducted. To create an accurate diagnosis early testing is needed. If they wish to improve their heath then such patients need a structured environment. The physical and mental health depends on how much care they get.  Only so much can be done to treat both the conditions lupus and SRL since both are autoimmune diseases. Towards more physical aspect of SRL, majority of treatments are directed towards.

This disease is heavily considered as a skin condition and for this it is disregarded since SRL has visible symptoms associated with it. According to Dr Richard many types of effect on the skin is observed in those with lupus. Many individuals can recognize these differences although not all lupus patients will be SRL. Not much has been done to promote care for such patients since there is lack of awareness on this disease. This disease is very much visible on the skin and bodies. It is a rare form of lupus.

Since 40-70 percent people with lupus will find that exposure to ultraviolet makes the condition worse hence the condition is further complicated.  The SRL patients may not find much needed attention. The transitioning back into the natural mold of society is difficult for such people. Serious stress can be created on individuals since they are overshadowed by a more popular heath condition. For some the stress can become an obstacle. For others the slightest change of their environment can increase the feeling of peril.

Changes are generally conceived as negative by these people. This can further affect the health. However among SRL patients stress can be reduced by regular diet and exercise. However equilibrium needs to be created first within themselves. Stress also plays an important role in development of mental disorders. SRL patients can find some relief by stress relieving remedies that can put off pressure.

The stress levels needs to be reduced as much as possible if there is higher chance of mental disorders. Such people need a strong support system so that they can have a pleasant lifestyle. Invalidation is one such factor that contributes to mental disorders. But since SRL patient’s symptoms are visible they are forced to have paid attention. Such patients should be given emotional support. Psychotropic medication involves pills and therapy.
