Overcoming the Emotional Obstacles with Lupus
The feeling of separation from others
There are days when getting out of bed can be difficult due to pain and fatigue. So, stepping out even for a short social engagement would be almost impossible when energy levels are running low. Also spending time with family can be hard when symptoms flare up. Both peers and family members might not understand right away, especially in the days that follow right after the initial diagnosis. Those who are not completely aware of the nature of the disease might be perplexed by the “bad days” when just a day or two before, there appeared to be nothing wrong.
This can obviously make a person feel isolated over time. But, again, these situations would need to be addressed along with any negative emotions a patient may be feeling in order to overcome these emotional obstacles.
