Signs of a Child Struggling with Mental Illness

1 in 5 US teens have a serious mental disorder. What can you do to help prevent it?

How many teens in the United States would you guess has a mental disorder? Would you think that it's as high as one in five? So, before you think that mental health is not too important, or that it can all be cured with hard work, consider just how many teens are dealing with it.

So, what does this mean? How does having such a high rate of teens with mental disorders affect us? As community members, it is our responsibility to look out for these teens and do what we can to prevent that ratio to go even higher.

One thing you can do, if you're a parent, is to keep them away from any potential traumas, and make sure you never neglect them, even in simple situations that might not seem like neglect. You can also start them in therapy before a problem arises, so they'll be prepared if one ever does. When it comes to parenting, be mindful.
