New Autism Regression Research Looks Promising for Diagnosis
Is there such a thing as sudden onset?
What if the child suddenly begins to exhibit symptoms at three years old after seeming to develop normally with speech and interaction that’s typically not capable in autism? Imagine the fear of parents of a child who abruptly starts losing function of his/her communicative or language abilities. This is commonly referred to as Autism Regression. It has been a topic of research for years and some even refer to it as a phenomenon. Some say that regression isn’t true. That there were clear signs pointing to autism earlier in the child's life: They were simply just missed. Some think it is a sudden onset of the disorder. Research continues on the two types and some feel the second “type” of autism should be eliminated completely.
