My nephew who is 7 years old has been diagnosed with kyphosis. What is this condition?

My nephew is 7 years old and has been diagnosed with a orthopedic condition called kyphosis. What causes this condition and what should be the course of treatment for it?

Most of the time kyphosis occurs for unknown reasons. He should see a spine surgeon. Most of the time surgery is not needed, only braces.
There are many different types of kyphosis. I would assume that he was diagnosed with Scheuermanns kyphosis.

Treatment at this point would depend on the degree. Extension exercises and swimming would be great. If it’s advanced may need to wear a brace. I would advise the consult a physician who is a member of the scoliosis research society.
