A pinched nerve? Tight muscles?

Hello, I was reaching out to hopefully gain more information about some symptoms I've been having. Back in September (of 2022), I randomly woke up one morning with a tingling feeling in my scalp and cheeks. I did seek out medical attention and was prescribed a week's worth of methylprednisolone. After finishing up the pack, I only noticed slight improvements and after I tried stretching out my face, I felt a sudden sharp (almost crawling-like pain) trickle down the back of my head from the top of my head to the bottom on the left side only. Since that day I tried stretching out my face, I've always felt a pinching or "stuck" feeling in the back of my head on that same side. I did try other solutions like chiropractic care and going to other doctors (I was prescribed medications such as butalbital-acetaminophen and Propranolol). I have not had any X-rays or other types of imaging done (my doctor told me that X-rays probably wouldn't be helpful in this case). My doctor told me that he suspects the symptoms are related to a musculoskeletal issue. Other additional symptoms include occasional sharp pains in other spots in my head, occasional tightness in my neck and behind my ears and burning pain in my neck and shoulders. I did receive a referral to a neurologist, but the appointment isn't until April. I was put on the waitlist in case an earlier appointment opened up. These symptoms have greatly impacted my quality of life and well-being and not being able to get into a neurologist until April is a bit discouraging. I was just wondering what advice you could offer or if you could give me some potential causes of these symptoms. Thank you.

Are you talking about stretching your face or extending your neck backwards. Seems like symptoms coning from your neck
The best thing is to try and get in to see the Neurologist ASAP. There are many issues that are possible. These need to be thoroughly evaluated with a detailed history and physical exam and diagnostic testing like MRI and possibly nerve conduction studies and other more specifics. Just rounds of treatment with steroids and or pain medication only masks the real issue. As soon as they call you with an available appointment with the Neurologist make sure you make it in. Good luck.  Dr. F Sent from AOL on Android
