Hematologist (Pediatric) Questions Hematologist

Abnormal CBC?

My 14 year old son had blood work done. He drinks a lot of milk and the doctor was concerned he may be anemic. He has no symptoms or complaints at all. His results came back and his hemoglobin, hematocrit, and RBC were all high. The doctor rechecked thinking he may have been dehydrated. Still high. All I can find online is polycythemia Vera. I am freaked out as I wait to hear from the doctor. Is there any other possible reason for them to be high that may not be as scary as a blood cancer?

I am not a pediatrician, but I believe it is unlikely for adolescents to get P Vera. It depends how high the RBC is. If it is significantly high and the kidney function is normal, I would have him see a pediatric hematologist.
