Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist Questions Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

Activity of my grandson -2 years old?

Since he was able to crawl, my grandson, who is 2 years old now, is obsessed with things that are round...balls, doorknobs, anything! It's quite noticeable. He loves to play outside, which is good. He appears to be hyperactive, which everyone seems to notice, also. Is there any research on this desire for round objects? He is not on any medication. This is not a medical concern, just would like to know if this is fairly common and why.

Male | 2 years old
Medications: none
Conditions: tubes in ears

It seems you are enjoying your grandson psychomotor development. That is good. You can start looking for clinical information about your child social development using a good reference book like Papalia (author) to look what is normal for his age. Look also at Jean Piagett. Other way is consulting With your pediatrician. He or she will be glad to answer all your questions.

Even though it is not my area of expertise, I believe it is normal curiosity-related behavior at that age.
