Are contact lenses better for astigmatism?

Generally, laser vision correction procedure, such as PRK and Lasik are better for treating astigmatism than is wearing contact lenses. Soft contact lenses with astigmatism correction usually have a prism ballast, which can move slightly when one blinks, coughs, sneezes, etc. That can cause a momentary blurring of vision. Hard contact lenses can give very good vision with astigmatism, but they are more uncomfortable to wear. Steven Vale, M. D.
