Are you awake during a transesophageal echocardiogram?

I am a 45 year old male. I want to know if you are awake during a transesophageal echocardiogram?

1 Answer

Patients are often heavily sedated for transesophageal echocardiograms. This does not involve placement of a breathing tube. Patients are given a short acting sedative that allows placement of the echo probe and keeps the patient comfortable and asleep for the procedure.
