Depending on the extent of the ear surgery. Some procedures on external ear, such as biopsy or excision of minor ear lobe mass, could be done in the office with local anesthesia. More invasive surgery on external ear, such as reconstruction of external ear, usually done in the hospital with general anesthesia. Majority of the procedures on middle and internal ear, icy as myringotomy, cochlear implants, other hearing correction surgeries, require general anesthetic.
Occasionally, they will do minor ear surgery under sedation. 99% of the time is done with general anesthesia. Also, do you have a choice to how you want to be given Anesthesia
