Birth control pill?

Basically, the pill has been recommended to me by a couple of doctors due to my very painful periods. My doctor suspects that this intense pain is likely a side effect of endometriosis and that taking the pill could help to reduce my pain as well as suppress the growth of more unwanted tissue. For these reasons I think that using this medication would be a good idea. However, I have concerns about how it will affect me mentally. I've done a lot of reading on this medication and a good collection of sources say that it has the potential to affect cognition and mood. These two factors are my greatest concerns as I am a college student and, admittedly, an overachiever. So, my main concern is that the pill could somehow affect my cognition in a way that might impact my studies, or that it might inhibit my ability to problem solve or my intelligence in general. Is there any likelihood of this happening?

There are no known long-term cognitive effects from birth control pills. As a functional medicine practitioner I offer clients an elimination diet and lifestyle modifications to decrease systemic inflammation, which will alleviate menstrual symptoms. It is also possible to add omega-3 fish oil and modulate fat intake to steer away from inflammatory omega-6 fats and
towards omega-3's to find an optimal physiologic balance and bring about a lower inflammatory response overall.
I hope this helps.
