Bruised ribs?

How can I stop the pain but still work? I cannot afford to not work. I didn't hurt this at work.

I have gotten good success with kinesiotaping bruised ribs. You can find someone locally that does this or you can go buy some kinesiotape and search on youtube for kinesiotaping for rib bruising It can be difficult to do yourself, however. And using the tape is a learned skill.
Bruised ribs are tough because they are constantly moving while breathing. Rest and not doing any strenuous activity will help, along with icing them, you can also use therapeutic ultrasound which speeds up the healing process which we offer at our office. Also getting a chiropractic adjustment to the thoracic spine can help as well because they are usually affected any time the ribs are injured.
Hello, Dr. Dan here.

The best way to still move and not cause pain, is to modify the movement to reduce the discomfort. Whether that be trying a different technique, having someone assist you, etc. If you have not already I would get the discomfort checked out by a healthcare professional, to make sure there is nothing serious happening, if you haven't already. Hopefully this helps you.

If it is “bruised ribs”, you can try athletic tape like Rock Tape to give tissue additional support. This should relieve pain and allow you to get back to work without as much pain. I would encourage you to see a Healthcare provider who could make an accurate diagnosis of this pain and offer additional treatments to further help your “bruised ribs”.
Bruised ribs are typically caused by direct trauma. A sports injury, a fall, or an accident are commonly reported. Less commonly; a severe coughing episode may cause a rib bruise. Unfortunately, bruised ribs have to heal on their own & may take a month or more. We really don’t wrap/brace bruised ribs or even fractures anymore. NSAID’s & ice at home are helpful for pain. We use Interferential therapy at our facility to reduce pain/swelling & to speed healing. We may refer to a Physiatrist for pain-reducing injections in cases of moderate to severe pain. You didn’t mention how your condition began. Please keep in mind other conditions may appear to be bruised ribs. Shingles come to mind first. Also, pulmonary issues, etc should be ruled out. If your pain isn’t slowly improving (or is getting worse) or you feel short of breath, get an evaluation.
