Depends on the aircraft. Light twin engine General Aviation aircraft can, but have very limited performance on a single engine. Airliners are certified to operate with loss of an engine. If fact, ETOPS (Extended-range Twin Engine Operations Performance Standards) certify the aircraft to reach a diversion airport using the remaining operating engine. Examples are flights to Hawaii, Asia, or Europe.
