Can bone marrow biopsy be done under anesthesia?

I will have a bone marrow biopsy. Can bone marrow biopsy be done under anesthesia?

You will receive IV sedation and after the procedure you will be taken to a recovery area. Plan to have someone to drive you back home. You can continue your daily activities as soon as you feel adequate. However, it is recommended not submerging the skin area of biopsy in water (no swimming or wetting the area), and not strenuous exercises for at least a week. Please, check with your healthcare provider. Thank you.
It is usually done under local anesthesia which is sufficient. If you are concerned you can talk to your physician about more intense anesthesia which has more significant side effects.
