Cataracts need to be manually removed and replaced with an artificial lens. Special lasers (femtosecond) can ASSIST in cataract surgery, but cannot completely solve the problem, unlike LASIK, which is entirely performed with lasers. Laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) is considered optional but may be recommended for some with dense lenses or astigmatism.
Parts of cataract surgery can be performed with a laser. The incisions can be made with a laser or a blade. The opening of the top membrane of the cataract can be removed with a laser. The cataract can be softened by laser. But you need an ultrasound (phacoemulsification )to remove the cataract.
