If an implant fails, there will be bone loss, unless bone grafting is done. Anything is possible, but generally, implants are compatible with bone and preserve the bone around it.
There is a difference between your jaw bone and the bone that surrounds your teeth. An implant is not placed in jaw bone An implant can only be placed if there is enough tooth bine. If an implant is bone in a place that doesnt have enough bone or if bacteria gets around the implant then it can fail the implant and you can lose more bone. If an implant fails it can leave a large hole in the bone. You can fill that hole with bone graft. So no an implant doesnt damage your jaw bone.

No, if they are done correctly. You should have a periodontist or an oral surgeon place the implant, preferably a periodontist who knows how to deal with soft tissue and bone better than an oral surgeon.
