Can dry eye cause irregular astigmatism?

I have irregular astigmatism. Can dry eye cause irregular astigmatism?

If you have mild to moderate dry eyes and get a corneal "mapping" test done at your eyecare provider's office, it may show something that looks like irregular astigmatism. But, typically, the mapping tests can improve if you treat the dry eye. The significant long-term dry eye could theoretically create scarring and haze on the eye that causes irregular astigmatism that doesn't improve. I hope that helps!
