Can gallstones go away without surgery?

I was diagnosed with gallstones. Is it serious? Can gallstones go away without surgery?

Generally, no. There is a possibility that they will shrink very slowly if one loses weight and avoids a high fat/high cholesterol diet.
It depends on the gallstones - some gallstones can be "melted" away with certain medication, but it doesn't typically work. Gallstones can be serious at times, as they can cause certain complications such as pancreatitis and cholecystitis, just to name a few. I would recommend seeing your primary care and gastroenterologist for further advice.
