“Can heel spur be fixed with surgery?”
I have a heel spur. Can heel spur be fixed with surgery?

It depends. If you are talking about a heel spur at the bottom (plantar) heel, the cause of the problem is NOT the spur-it is a ligament problem called Plantar Fasciitis. Can this be fixed with surgery? Yes, in a way, by cutting the ligament and destabilizing your arch forever; but surgery is far from necessary for this problem; orthotics, injections, PT, Stretching, and proper shoes with anti-inflammatory medications is the appropriate treatment. If the spur is at the insertion of the Achilles tendon at the back of the heel, that can be fixed with surgery, but comes with many potentially serious complications, and should be a last resort.
Heel spurs are usually not the problem. The mechanics of the foot need to be addressed. If this fails, then yes, a heel spur can be removed by surgery. I recommend you schedule an appointment with a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) to discuss your particular case.
This depends on where the spur is located and if the spur is the true source of or contributor to your pain. Typically spurs on the bottom of the heel are not the source of pain and rarely need to be removed. If the spur is in the back of the heel there is a good chance that it is rubbing in the shoes and irritating the Achilles tendon. Removal of this spur is usually done in the case that conservative treatments fail. That being said, this type of spur can be removed surgically.
Heel spurs may be associated with a condition called plantar fasciitis which is a ligament condition. The plantar fasciitis can usually be successfully managed with conservative care regardless of the presence of a heel spur. Getting the proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment can resolve most heel pain without having to address the presence of a heel spur.
