“Can the ER do anything for a pinched nerve?”
I am a 30 year old male. I want to know if the ER can do anything for a pinched nerve?

The ER can help to diagnose what is causing the nerve pinching and order medications to help with the pain.
Hi,
The ER is not the ideal place for a pinched nerve unless you’re in severe pain. The only thing they can do for you is give medication to make you feel better until you can see a specialist as an outpatient. Specialists can do injections and get you on the right medication‘s if needed.

Acutely sometimes steroids can help but is not a long term solution. Anti-inflammatories like tylenol and nsaids are typical first line.
Yes, the ED can order an MRI do determine the location and can start you on oral steroids as needed. The ED can also contact a Pain Physician for discharge continuity of care and determine next steps. If the nerve is pinched badly enough, a surgeon may need to be consulted.
Hello,
No, typically they won't do treatment for that type of issue and will tell you to get in with a pain management/physical medicine and rehab provider who would undergo imaging studies and determine that actual root cause and go through a series of injections (epidurals or facet blocks) to help alleviate the inflammation that is causing the pain.
