A tonsil infection can be bacterial or viral. Some of the time antibiotics are appropriate for these types of infection.

Were you diagnosed by someone? Tonsil and throat pain could be anything from post nasal drip or allergies to severe infection. Some of the infections are viral and can resolve on there own while some need antibiotics. I would recommend being swabbed for strep if the pain is moderate to severe.
