I have asthma and need to have surgery under anesthesia. Can you go under anesthesia with asthma?

Yes. People with asthma sometimes need to have surgery just like people without asthma. For elective procedures its important to ensure that your asthma is optimized (no wheezing or shortness of breath, good exercise tolerance). This may require consultation with your asthma doctor to ensure you are on the right medication(s). For elective procedures we will recommend rescheduling if you are wheezing or experiencing shortness of breath on the day of procedure because this indicates that your asthma is not optimized.
