Cluster Headaches

My wife is in pain from cluster headaches much of the time. Oxygen is the only help. Doesn’t get them at work, only after when she is relaxing and trying to sleep. Doesn’t want to take too many triptans. Any advice?

Yes, find a good neurologist. True cluster headaches have a high rate of complete resolution (aka these can be cured) with treatment options that have zero oral medications involved.
Try Emgality of occipital/temporal nerve blocks. Emgality is FDA approved and the blocks can be very helpful.
Verapamil ( a calcium channel blocker ) has been used successfully. There are some sporadic reports of the new class of migraine medications known as the CGRP ( calcitonin gene related peptides ) offering relief ( Emgality , Nurtec ). Talk with your Neurologist about these.  Good luck. Dr. F. Sent from AOL on Android
