Gastroenterologist Questions

Colonoscopy biopsy results

On my biopsy report it said benign colonic mucosa with non specific chronic Inflammation. It also says negative for any type of colitis. I did have an appendectomy 4 months ago and this colonoscopy was a recommended follow up. My gastroenterologist said this is all normal. What does that result mean?

Hard for me to interpret since I don't know why a biopsy was taken and what type of tissue was sampled. It sounds like normal appearing colon mucosa was biopsied but this is usually not done unless something specific is being worked up, such as diarrhea.
