Rheumatologist (Pediatric) Questions Juvenile Arthritis

Could my child have juvenile RA?

My son (11 years old) is complaining of stiffness in his hands, and from what I can tell there is nothing external that has caused this. It has been going on for over two weeks now. Is it a problem?

If the stiffness persists more than 6 weeks then I would recommend further evaluation by your primary care provider.
Hi!

The child could be developing it from something. It could something the child is touching bothering him. The child should wash his hands continuously. JAD starts if the child has pain and stiffness for more than 6 weeks. There are foods to help him. There are medicines, too. A diet with mustard and cilantro will help. Keep doing exercises. You should see your pediatrician.

If his symptoms are not related to injury or a recent illness, he should be evaluated by his primary care provider. Especially if the stiffness is associated with joint swelling, warmth, redness or pain, and lasts for more than 6 weeks, he may also benefit from a pediatric rheumatology evaluation.
