General Practitioner Questions Propranolol

Do I have to avoid eating foods like ginger or garlic if I'm taking propranolol

Hi I recently added raw ginger to my diet and have been eating it almost everyday. But I read online it can be dangerous because of its affect on blood pressure, since I'm taking propranolol. I only take 5 mg of propranolol twice a day for anxiety. Do I have to stop eating ginger?

Although propranolol does not treat the underlying cause of anxiety it does lower heart rate and blood pressure. some studies say ginger lowers heart rate and blood pressure, you should monitor both while ginger consumption, if your heart rate is less than 60 or blood pressure is less than 90/60 discontinue the medication or ginger consumption, and consult PCP for further evaluation or treatment.
When your propranolol intake is as modest as you write, there is no need to worry about foods that you eat. Unless, of course, you eat copious amounts of those foods you mention, in which case you could obviously reduce the amount that you take in.
