Orthopaedic Surgeon Questions

Do I need surgery?

I have a wrist injury that has been mobilized for 2 weeks. I had X-rays done that states scapholunate joint space is widened suggesting ligament disruption. This is possibly chronic as there is greater narrowing of the joint space between the radius and scaphoid than between the radius and lunate.

This a surgery maybe.Depends on multiple circumstances including anticipated use patterns.
Please ask question to a hand specialist. I am a hip and knee specialist. Usually, it depends on clinical exam, MRI findings to define the injury and response to conservative treatment if occult fracture is ruled out .
You can try nonsurgical treatment first. If pain persists surgery could be an option. There are also injections that can be tried.
A comparison xray of the opposite wrist can tell you if changes seen are normal for you(they can be). If there is a difference an MRI can determine if acute or chronic.
