“Do I really need to start taking calcium supplements in my early 30s?”
I am a woman in my early 30s, and my doctor has recently recommended me to take calcium supplements. However, I'm not really low on it. Are they really necessary?

Most healthy women in their 30's will not require calcium supplementation, although there are situations where calcium may not be adequately absorbed in the body. The calcium level in your blood is not an accurate reflection of the calcium in your bones. You should ask your doctor exactly why he/she recommended calcium for you.
Calcium intake is important for Bone and muscle health starting early in life. As we get out of teen years, dairy and milk intake may decline ,especially if one develops lactose intolerance. Even with decent calcium levels in your blood, it doesn't reflect total bone calcium. If your doctor advises you, I agree. Don't overdo it. 500mg elemental calcium and vitamin D is advised
