Although your question is a question so many people have, it's not easy to answer. It depends on the location of the pain and your pain level. Generally, acu laser pens are not that strong.

Specifically, I will discuss COLD lasers and assume that is what you mean. It depends on the type of laser and what it will be used for. The red laser is great for pain and for just stimulating the point. I have used it clinically for decades and on myself with great results. There is no strong research that the green or purple lasers have any therapeutic value. There is some research to indicate that the blue laser has some significance for some conditions, but my own clinical experience with it was it is not very useful so I do not use blue. That said, using colored light that is not laser is very therapeutic, especially the colors red, blue, and yellow. Many devices are available, but training in the use of these devices is recommended to prevent damage and to know what color to use for specific conditions.

Laser acupuncture pen has special frequency that works. Not all the laser pens work medically. You should find out the frequency of your Laser pen.

There is no scientific data proving the efficacy of laser acupuncture. I would like to recommend traditional acupuncture, which has been proven to be effective.

Laser acupuncture is only legal in couple states (i.e., Florida). The laser acupuncture uses cold type of laser, it works for certain kinds of problems. Please also talk to your practitioner.

I do not know enough about this topic to speak with any authority. I know the industry lasers sold to us are very expensive and must be very specific frequencies of light. But that is all I really know.

It does, though I don't recommend using a laser to try and treat yourself at home. It's important to note that though that technique may seem harmless, acupuncture is still medicine and activation of the points will change your body's function. Additionally, acupuncturists may use different colored lasers on specific points to achieve different goals.
Never having used a laser pen, I can't tell you if they work. Check with your local acupuncturist and ask if they've used one.
