Do they put you to sleep for dislocated shoulder?

I dislocated my shoulder. I want to treat it. Do they put you to sleep for a dislocated shoulder?

Different facilities and practitioners have different approaches to the reduction of shoulder dislocations. Oftentimes, you will receive propofol so that you will be asleep when it is reduced. You will be able to breathe spontaneously and wake up quickly with this plan. If you have concerns, be sure to discuss them with your orthopedic surgeon and anesthesia provider. I can also be done with sedation, but you won't be completely out for that and you have more of a chance of getting nauseous. Good luck!
Depends on how badly it's dislocated. Probably yes though if it's been dislocated for very long.
No, they may give you pain medicine to reduce pain.
Dislocated shoulder may be treated under general anesthesia or by intravenous sedation. Your anesthesiologist and surgeon will decide together what would be best and safest for your case. With best wishes.

Not necessarily.  It depends on how "stubborn" the dislocation is. That is, it can sometimes be accomplished as a closed reduction by manipulation with some mild or moderate sedation.

If necessary, yes.
