Do you have sweet smelling urine if you have diabetes?

I am a 20 year old female with diabetes. I notice that my urine smells a bit fruity. Is this normal?

Diabetics as well as some non-diabetics excrete sugar in the urine as the body is trying to correct its high blood sugars in the first case, and may have sugar leakage in the later cases. In the olden days, people used to touch and even taste the urine. That is how they discovered that especially diabetics excrete sticky, sweet urine.
There are other metabolic disorders in which affected people excrete for instance maple syrup urine, as well as after injection of certain supplements.

Yes, we call that GLUCOSURIA; means sugar in the urine.
Hi,

You should ask your endocrinologist for a urine dip stick. This can help you check your glucose to better manage your diabetes.
