“Do you need a root canal before a crown?”
I will get a dental crown next week. I want to know if you need a root canal before a crown?

You need to have your dentist evaluate whether the tooth is vital, whether the potential for a pulp exposure exists, and whether a root canal would be needed for optimal crown preparation of the tooth.
Not necessarily. If there is an infection in the tooth or decay that extends to the nerves of the tooth, then yes, you would need a root canal.
No. Not always. If the tooth had no decay, it may not need it, but the tooth might need root canal after the crown is cemented permanently anyway. There is a chance the pulp dies for one reason or another, and then the dentist must put a hole through the crown, usually, and that is another problem.
Not necessary! If your tooth has reasonable structure, no pupal pathology and symptoms, you do NOT need root canal therapy before crowning. Good luck!
Generally speaking, most teeth that need crowns do not need a root canal. However, most teeth That have been treated with root canal, will need a crown. Teeth that need root canals have associated pathology, infection and or pain inside the pump chamber of the tooth. Your dentist will be able to explain your situation and your needs
