“Does anesthesia put extra stress on the liver?”
My dad is a liver patient and is scheduled for a surgery. Are there any risks of getting anesthesia given his medical condition?

Yes. Medication are cleared by the liver. You should be medical cleared by your hepatologist for elective surgery prior to surgery.
Yes, certain things will be affected by poor liver function and that's why your anesthesiologist will adjust things accordingly and use medications with minimal effect on liver, don't worry
The drugs we administer are not toxic to the liver per se. With a well-managed anesthetic, your father should do fine.
Hello,
It depends on the type of surgery and the degree of liver disease. It's best to have your dad's surgeon request an anesthesiology consultation at least 14 days before surgery.

There is only a small increased risk from the anesthetics. The surgery may be more of an impact, depending on what he is having done.
Anesthesia does put stress on all the major organs of the body. Depends on how the liver function tests turn out. He can have most surgeries with certain precautions that need to be taken before proceeding. Discuss with the anesthesiologist to clear your doubts. Depends on the type of surgery also. Unless he is in total liver failure, most of the time, things go well.
