Does depression cause memory loss?

I am a 42 year old female. I want to know if depression causes memory loss?

It depends on the severity of the depression. A very severe depression can occupy your cognition. Milder depression does not usually affect memory.
Depression can cause what is called pseudo dementia.
Sometimes medications used to treat depression may cause memory deficits that are temporary.
Unfortunately, depression does affect memory. The functional MRI scans demonstrate clear picture where the volume/size of hippocampus (memory chip in our brain) decreases in untreated depression.
