“Does the acupuncture pen really work?”
I am a 41 year old male. I want to know if the acupuncture pen really works?

I do not use a acupuncture pen. I suggest you find a good practitioner who uses acupuncture needles.
I don't know what an acupuncture pen is. Acupuncture has the word puncture in it. This means pricking the skin.
There are several “pen-like” instruments that are used to stimulate acupuncture points. Laser, heat, pressure, magnets, and electricity could be performed with something that resembles a pen. And, depending on the person, pattern, signs, and symptoms in hands of a skilled and licensed acupuncturist could be very effective.

It depends on who wields the pen... but I doubt it. The practitioner must understand the theories of how the energy functions and moves... but people love silly gadgets. Find a professional fully trained in the medicine, possessing a master's degree AND 5+ years experience in this field.
I would have to say no - Acupuncture is a very complex and ancient system of healing, an acupuncture pen in the hands of a layman isn't likely to be effective.
There are too many missing variables to your question for me to provide any sort of accurate answer. What condition are you trying to treat? How long has this issue persisted? What have you already tried? Have you seen a licensed practitioner of Chinese medicine and gotten a Chinese diagnosis for your issue? How good are you at locating acupuncture points? I've seen acupuncturists get fairly good results for patients with acute issues (i.e., the patient has been experiencing the issue for 3 months or less) with an acupuncture pen. I've seen acupuncturists who've successfully trained a patient to maintain their treatment results using an acupuncture pen. Do I think acupuncture pens work? Yes. Do I think an untrained person can order a pen and resolve a long-standing problem? No. If you're interested in trying Chinese medicine, go to NCCAOM.org, use their "Find a Practitioner" look up, and visit a board certified and state licensed practitioner near you.
I DO NOT recommend the use of any "DIY" or "at home" acupuncture products. Though this medicine may seem harmless, if done incorrectly it can worsen your condition or even create other conditions.
If you wish to work with techniques like acupressure at home, I recommend you speak with your acupuncturist for guidance. They can also teach you how to use some of the tools that we use in the clinic such as moxa, gua sha tools, cups, or TENS units.
