“Dry itchy skin”
When I was a teenager I fell and scrapped my shin. It healed completely but the spot is now dry, itchy, dark and even the hair grows different. Why is that? And what can I do to fix it?

Trauma may permanently damage hair follicles and put melanin (color) into the dermis with the scar. It can also cause a thickening of the epidermis, called acanthosis. Typically, I tell patients to apply corticosteroids. You can only buy a weaker hydrocortisone over the counter, if you want something stronger, you may need a prescription Thanks
