Endoscopy Questions

I am concerned about getting an upper endoscopy performed. I have GERD and am scheduled for this procedure next week. I have Sjogrens Syndrome with very dry mouth and throat, and am worried this will be painful, even with sedation. I choke easily and can't imagine how I can do this. Do you have any advice for me?

You are sedated during the procedure and hopefully will not remember the test
Endoscopy is not painful when performed by experienced hands
It is important to have the procedure done to make sure the esophageal lining is normal in setting of chronic reflux.
The upper endoscopy should not be painful for you, even with the history of Sjogrens. You might want to inquire about the type of sedation that will be used, because some types provide deeper sedation than others. Most people don't remember anything about the exam, especially if you are put to sleep with propofol.
