“Fibrous healing of broken neck?”
My mom broke her neck. It was a c2 fracture. The doctor put her in a neck brace for six months. She has a nonunion with fibrous healing. The doctor advised her against surgery. She also has spinal stenosis. She is 78 years old. He said she will be okay as long as she doesn't fall hard. Is this true? Can she continue to live a long life with a broken neck?

You can stay stable with a fibrous non union. It may also develop a progressive arthritic expansion and lead to spinal cord compression. This fracture should be followed for that
Hello, well at her age with a non-union she should probably continue to wear a brace when out for protection. An orthopedic neurosurgeon can give you better advice about this, and maybe an endocrinologist or rheumatologist can do something about her bone growth. If she has not been seen at a university center that may be of benefit for her situation.
